We Not Me

We Not Me By Andy Matheson
2014 | 108 Pages | ISBN: 1780781148 | EPUB | 1 MB
It is well known that individualism and consumerism are so pervasive that they have become the spectacles through which we view and understand our lives, including our spirituality. Sadly we keep these glasses on as we read our Bibles, and in the process we allow our reading to reinforce our individualism. Many readers and expositors of the Bible take verses without due concern for their context. In the process, verses that were originally intended to be understood within a community setting are made to mean something different from what their authors intended. One of the most serious consequences is that passages which refer to our community life are made to reinforce our individualism. This is not handling the 'Word of Truth' correctly. In We Not Me Andy Matheson argues that we need to embrace the perspective of 'the God who sees'. His vision is relational; he sees with communal lenses. Community is so core to God's nature and purposes that it undergirds everything that is implicitly inferred or explicitly stated on every page of the Bible. If we can rediscover what it means to be a community - the kind of community where all barriers are broken down and where our lives reflect the original vision of the gospel - then we play a much more effective part in ushering in God's Kingdom.

We Promised You a Great Main Event is an exhaustive, fun account of the McMahon family and WWE's unprecedented rise. We Tried to Tell Y'All: Black Twitter and the Rise of Digital Counternarratives (Oxford Studies in Digital Politics) by Meredith D. Clark
English | January 7, 2025 | ISBN: 0190068140 | 200 pages | PDF | 1.92 Mb
Through interviews, news analysis, and personal observation, Meredith D. Clark presents the first book about how Black Twitter users carved out a vital space for fast-paced, incisive commentary on Black life in America not found in the mainstream press.

Since 1827, when Freedom's Journal, the first newspaper to be published by free Black men in the United States, Black folks have been making use of the media technologies available to them to tell their own stories in their own ways. In We Tried to Tell Y'all: Black Twitter and the Rise of Digital Counternarratives, Meredith D. Clark explains how Black social media users subvert the digital divide narrative while confronting centuries of erasure, omission, and mischaracterization of Black life in 'mainstream' media.
This ethnographic exploration of Black Twitter draws on news media analysis, in-depth interviews, and personal observation to trace the phenomenon's three levels of community connection, and advances a theory of Black Digital Resistance that illustrates how Black social media users harnessed the platform to annotate and narrate everything from play to protest to everyday life.
From chapters that recognize the "locomotive power" of Black women and femmes' intellectual labor to a thorough takedown of so-called "cancel culture", We Tried to Tell Y'all offers readers a rich exploration of the latest chapter of Black media production. Regardless of the future direction of the platform, Black Twitter will forever remain an important moment in the long history of the Black press and Black social movements in the United States.

We Who Wrestle with God Perceptions of the Divine

a020d565ca13d79e31e9f76d4f176f57.webp

We Who Wrestle with God: Perceptions of the Divine by Jordan B. Peterson
English | November 19, 2024 | ISBN: 0593542533 | 576 pages | PDF | 11 Mb
A revolutionary new offering from Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, renowned psychologist and author of the global bestseller 12 Rules for Life.

In We Who Wrestle with God, Dr. Peterson guides us through the ancient, foundational stories of the Western world. In riveting detail, he analyzes the Biblical accounts of rebellion, sacrifice, suffering, and triumph that stabilize, inspire, and unite us culturally and psychologically. Adam and Eve and the eternal fall of mankind; the resentful and ultimately murderous war of Cain and Abel; the cataclysmic flood of Noah; the spectacular collapse of the Tower of Babel; Abraham's terrible adventure; and the epic of Moses and the Israelites. What could such stories possibly mean? What force wrote and assembled them over the long centuries? How did they bring our spirits and the world together, and point us in the same direction?
It is time for us to understand such things, scientifically and spiritually; to become conscious of the structure of our souls and our societies; and to see ourselves and others as if for the first time.
Join Elijah as he discovers the Voice of God in the dictates of his own conscience and Jonah confronting hell itself in the belly of the whale because he failed to listen and act. Set yourself straight in intent, aim, and purpose as you begin to more deeply understand the structure of your society and your soul. Journey with Dr. Peterson through the greatest stories ever told.
Dare to wrestle with God.

Weak Enough to Lead What the Bible Tells Us about Powerful Leadership

a62dcb090b42fdc3811ad7e4287ae4bc.webp

Weak Enough to Lead : What the Bible Tells Us about Powerful Leadership By James C. Howell
2017 | 117 Pages | ISBN: 1501842633 | EPUB | 1 MB
The Bible's version of leadership is pretty different from--and sometimes alien to--that of the business world. It is also dissimilar from our usual assumptions about what makes a great leader in the church, where we tend to focus on preaching ability, strategic hutzpah, and managerial savvy. But what if the Bible actually points toward a different set of characteristics necessary for leadership? What if our weakness is an essential qualification? Do we know our limitations, our inabilities? Do we see clearly our vulnerable, broken selves? Do we really believe that God's strength is perfected in our weakness, and do we lead with that as a core belief? James Howell's Weak Enough to Lead is not a list of "leadership principles" from the Bible. This book is an examination of stories about leaders from the Old Testament, where we discover not only them but ourselves. How does family dysfunction or depression or tragic bad luck or larger historical forces figure into the leadership equation? How do biblical characters prosper despite themselves or stumble even while being holy? Can we get inside the head, heart, and the actual administration of King David and reckon with his strength and foibles? How is strength in leadership almost always the downfall of the biblical leader? What kind of leader would Jesus, Esther, Moses, Jeremiah, or Paul be today? Howell explores the careers, struggles, joys, and devastations of various biblical leaders, believing that immersion in scripture's stories is what modern Christian leaders need--not to succeed so much as to be God's people in the world. He roots this unique exploration of leadership in a prayer of Jehoshaphat: "We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you."

Wealth and the Built Environment (Sustainable Development Goals Series)

aec4fcb8b4c2fe326594b683b3189777.webp

Wealth and the Built Environment (Sustainable Development Goals Series) by Emilio José García, Brenda Vale
English | April 27, 2025 | ISBN: 3031819535 | 265 pages | EPUB | 37 Mb
The need to address global environmental problems is urgent. The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cover a wide range of global concerns, from poverty, hunger, and gender equity to justice and climate action. Concerningly, the SDGs still have faith in economic growth and technological innovation as the means of fixing all global concerns, including climate change. What is not questioned is whether solving development and sustainability problems through economic growth for the accumulation of wealth for the few has led to many of the current unequal development and environmental problems. If unfair growth and wealth accumulation have been part of the problem, how can they be part of the solution? The problem with the SDGs is that their fulfilment relies on wealth creation without the fundamental concomitant of wealth redistribution. The one common driver of change affecting both sustainability and development that has not been included in the SDGs is wealth, the central focus of this book.

SDG 11 - sustainable cities and communities - presents a further paradox unless the issue of wealth and its fair distribution is grasped. Cities are the places where wealth is generated but are also places where only a minority are wealthy. The wealth generated in cities leads to higher consumption of resources, higher emissions, and higher disparities and inequalities. However, any version of a sustainable future will happen in the built environment made according to current ideals, like the present belief in overcoming all humanity's problems by becoming wealthier. A fundamental assumption of this book is that the first step toward a fairer habitat that can maintained with the resources available is only possible if we stop designing cities and buildings as if everyone were wealthy or had to become wealthy. To achieve this goal, it is essential to identify and raise awareness of the impact of wealth, to question how the myths about the advantages of wealth were built, where they come from, what shape they take in the built environment and who benefits from them.

Wealth Is a Mindset Change Your Mind, Change Your Money

Wealth Is a Mindset: Change Your Mind, Change Your Money by Shang Saavedra
English | January 14, 2025 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0DF2VQNLZ | 219 pages | EPUB | 8.04 Mb
"A compassionate guide on personal finance that focuses on the value of your life instead of just fixating on the value of a dollar." - Erin Lowry, author of the Broke Millennial series.

In Wealth Is a Mindset, Shang Saavedra, Founder of Save My Cents and top personal finance coach, creates a judgment-free space for readers to learn about personal finance and make their dreams of financial independence come true, one cent at a time.
Shang Saavedra is the Founder and CEO of Save My Cents, a personal-finance education and coaching platform that focuses on the intersection of mental health and financial wealth. Her ethos is that changing one's finances isn't merely about making or saving more money. In her mind, personal finance is personal and thus related to one's upbringing, past experiences, family history, and more. It requires bravely facing the traumas and fears of one's past and tracing how they lead to mindsets grounded in scarcity and insecurity, especially as they relate to the handling of money.
Drawing upon scientific research on psychology and neuroscience, as well as many mental health experts, Saavedra has developed a methodology called "Trigger, Action, Reward," which identifies the root causes of unhealthy money behaviors, provides concrete suggestions on how to break those cycles, and guides readers toward an abundance mindset that leads to financial success and security. Through her online classes and coaching lessons in investing, saving for retirement, debt freedom, and more, she has helped thousands of clients implement the TAR strategy and achieve transformative change in their lives.
Wealth Is a Mindset provides practical, concrete applications of Saavedra's mindset-changing methodology. It is also an empathetic memoir that shows how Saavedra and her husband overcame many of their own emotional challenges to attain financial freedom. Dozens of anecdotes from her clients illustrate how the strategy works in real life. More importantly, it shows that we all are human, our inherent worth going far beyond simply a salary and net worth number. Featuring prescriptive, judgment-free exercises and worksheets to show step by step how to pay down debt, raise income, start a side hustle, save more money, invest for retirement, and build generational wealth, Wealth Is a Mindset will help readers find ways to improve their money and their lives, no matter where they are in their personal money story.

Westhope Life as a Former Farm Boy

7a2d0081c79c3c6d34d8ec8e789f28b5.webp

Westhope : Life as a Former Farm Boy By Dean Hulse
2009 | 164 Pages | ISBN: 0816665125 | PDF | 1 MB
Growing up in Westhope, North Dakota, during the 1960s and 1970s, Dean Hulse was surrounded by a thriving agricultural community. Family farms were the backbone of the local economy, and the small businesses lining the town’s main street provided the essentials of daily life. Since that time the small towns of the Great Northern Plains have witnessed severe economic decline as family farms have gradually been replaced by industrial agriculture. In Westhope: Life as a Former Farm Boy, Hulse recalls his idyllic childhood and adolescence in a small town that will look and feel familiar to many and movingly describes his failed attempt to carry on the family farm. Like many of his generation, Hulse discovers that the way of life he grew up with—one led by his parents and his grandparents before them—is threatened with extinction. Through a loosely chronological series of highly personal essays, Hulse delivers a strong critique of the destructive, shortsighted agricultural practices and economic policies that have led to rural depopulation throughout the Great Plains. Westhope poetically conveys Hulse’s lamentations for the people, cultures, and landscapes of rural North Dakota but is nevertheless optimistic in its outlook; as an activist, Hulse now strives to retain the essence of small-town life and to create new economic models that can revitalize and sustain it. His holistic vision for the future of rural America will inspire the many people working to make the good life—from the family farm to Main Street—a reality once again.

What's Love Got to Do with It How the Heart of God Shapes Worship

What's Love Got to Do with It? : How the Heart of God Shapes Worship By Sam Jr. Hamstra; John Witvliet
2016 | 178 Pages | ISBN: 1498280560 | EPUB | 1 MB
In the past three-plus decades, a significant conversation has taken place among American Protestants about worship. As a result, countless books have been written on the subject. We have read books on music and worship, ancient-future worship, worship as spiritual formation, worship and the arts, worship and children, even life as worship. Listen to that conversation, however, and you will notice one word conspicuously absent. While the heart and soul of the Christian life is love, and while the apostle Paul (I Corinthians 13) insists that worship without love fails to be worship, recent conversations on worship fail to answer this simple question, "What's love got to do with it?" In this volume, Sam Hamstra answers that question and more by identifying biblical principles that shape our love as worshipers. The end result is an invaluable resource for worshipers and for those responsible for planning corporate worship.

When Faith Turns Ugly: Understanding Toxic Faith and How to Avoid It By Brian Harris
2016 | 146 Pages | ISBN: 1842278576 | EPUB | 1 MB
Following the huge success of The Tortoise Usually Wins, 2012, and The Big Picture, 2015, in When Faith Turns Ugly Brian Harris explores why the Christian faith sometimes wears two masks - usually life-serving and transforming, but occasionally escapist, illusionary and even poisonous. What are the warning signs that faith is at risk of turning toxic? What do we mean by the conviction that the gospel liberates? Brian Harris' take on what constitutes life-serving faith is refreshing and will be appreciated by all who would like to be sure that their obedience to Jesus the Christ will help to build a world with a better name.

When I Die, Bury Me Well : Death, Burial, Almsgiving, and Restoration in the Book of Tobit By Francis M. Macatangay
2016 | 124 Pages | ISBN: 1498209858 | PDF | 1 MB
"Sennacherib put to death many Israelites. So I stole their bodies to bury them; Sennacherib looked for them and he could not find them." Why do we bury the dead? To honor and respect them? To provide closure and comfort to the living? To provide the dead a final resting place? Tobit buried the dead as the ultimate work of mercy, and its pervasive presence in the narrative discourse of the book of Tobit invites reflection on and consideration of the reason for the practice of burial. The narrative drama radiates a universal sense of what it means to be in exile, namely, that it is an experience of death. Weaving together a complex of ideas related to Israelite interment practices and the reality of Israel's exile from the land given to them by God, this book explores the significance of burial as it relates to God's outstanding promises and Tobit's hopes for the household of Jacob.

Who Are These People Anyway? By Irving Powless; Lesley Forrester
2016 | 211 Pages | ISBN: 0815634498 | EPUB | 1 MB
In the rich tradition of oral storytelling, Chief Irving Powless Jr. of the Beaver Clan of the Onondaga Nation reminds us of an ancient treaty. It promises that the Haudenosaunee people and non-Indigenous North Americans will respect each other's differences even when their cultures and behaviors differ greatly. Powless shares intimate stories of growing up close to the earth, of his work as Wampum Keeper for the Haudenosaunee people, of his heritage as a lacrosse player, and of the treaties his ancestors made with the newcomers. He also pokes fun at the often-peculiar behavior of his non-Onondaga neighbors, asking, Who are these people anyway? sometimes disarmingly gentle, sometimes caustic, these vignettes refreshingly portray mainstream North American culture as seen through Haudenosaunee eyes. Powless illustrates for all of us the importance of respect, peace, and, most importantly, living by the unwritten laws that preserve the natural world for future generations.

This accessible study reveals Paul's argument in Galatians and applies it to today's church. Whole By Philip Osment
2013 | 62 Pages | ISBN: 184943445X | EPUB | 1 MB
What happens when you're in a hole? What happens when that hole's inside you? What do you do you fill it with to make yourself feel whole? Last year, 3 teenagers emailed the 20 Stories High Theatre Company to ask them if they could make a play about their friend Holly. This is how it unravelled... 3 teenagers: ...So that's our story and we really want to tell it... and we want to act in it as well, and play ourselves... cos actors wouldn't really be as convincing as us... 20 Stories High: It's a very moving story... but we're really busy at the moment and also, to be honest, you're not really actors. 3 teenagers: But we really want to tell our story... it says on your website that "Everybody has a story to tell... and their own way of telling it..." 20 Stories High: ...well, come back in a year, when we're less busy, and let's talk... One Year Later... We made the play with them... WHOLE
